***Study guides for assessment retakes are linked at the bottom of this page***
My name is Mariana Cerecedo and I am in my fourteenth year of teaching at the Middle School level. This is my tenth year at La Joya and I teach 7th grade Math. I am also teaching Spanish 1 for the third year! Previously, I taught at Buena Park Junior High and at Divisadero Middle School. I hold a BA in Liberal Studies from Cal Poly, SLO and a Multiple Subject Credential with a Supplemental Authorization in Mathematics from Fresno State. I also hold a Single Subject Spanish Credential. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and playing with my son, reading, traveling, riding my bike, shopping, and eating :)
Many of you have probably asked the following question at least once in your lifetime: "Why is Math important?" The short answer? Math is important because it is the most widely used subject in the world. The more-in-depth answer? Click on the math tools and read on.
"It's too hard!," is what I often hear when I ask a student why he/she didn't complete the homework. Lack of motivation, dedication, effort, interest, confidence, and ability are common characteristics of students who consider Math to be their least-favorite subject. As a math teacher, I hope to be able to guide my students to gain and grow in all of these areas. I believe that if a student wants to be successful in Math, he/she will improve with a lot of hard work, practice, and persistence. One of the most important things to remember is to ask for help if ability and comprehension skills in Math are low. Students are strongly encouraged to approach me about setting up a time to seek the help that they need. My office hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:13 pm to 3:45 pm. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please e-mail me at mcerecedo@vusd.org. You may also call 730-7921 when a return call is needed.
